At 12pm UK time, Chris Schaefer AKA - Big Rock, will be laid to rest in Prague, where he lived and died.
Then again most of his time was spent "On the Road". Big Rock was our (Leatherface) European Tour Manager and Toured with the band for many years! Frankie (Stubbs) and I spoke last week about the shocking news that Big Rock had passed away, at home through Carbon Monoxide poisoning from his heating system. This was nothing more than tragic, considering the happy life he enjoyed.
We had always considered Big Rock as a band member and I can confirm that we agreed, he will always be considered as a member of Leatherface, officially. Rock was not only a great Tour Manager, but for some of us outside touring and music, a great and trusted friend. He was the sort of human being we need in this world and it is so sad he has been taken.
He was the only American who could understand Mackem (Sunderland Accent) and speak it, apart from Davey "Tiltwheel", Quinn?
"How, ya deein Son, ya alreet?"
It's hard to believe we wont see or speak to him, but as his own Tattoo said "The Tour is finally over". Our thoughts are with his Mum (Roz), Laurie Schaefer (Sister), Louise Trotman (Fiancee), his family, friends in Prague, USA, and all around the world.
You will be a big miss my friend. At times like these, take a minute to remember your family, friends and loved one's that have been lost and just value what we have that is good around us, life can be oh, so short.
Leatherface have quit the Spring Into Summer Punk Hootenanny gig at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds. HDQ are set to replace the band as headliners.
In Jack Rabid's farewell ‘Rabid In The Kennel’ radio show in December 2011 was a collection of the top 10 best sessions of the show that run on Breakthru Radio from New York, USA for two and half years. The Leatherface session took the number one slot in this final show. Here is an excerpt from the show:
